A WDC 18th BD Writing Contest for the Clever at heart! A Charity Event to Benefit RAOK |
🎩 In honor of WDC's Eighteenth Birthday, "Cross Timbers Novel Workshop On Hiatis" is thrilled to present A Charity Event to Benefit "RAOK Upgrade Brigade Group" 18 IN EIGHTEEN Our Mission, should you decide to partake: That no writer should ever be turned away from the halls, walls, and portfolios of the Wonderful World that is WDC! Why? Because we love WDC... And we want to promote the Novel Workshop. When? September 1st through September 7th, 2018 **For those who have already read The Rules and Guidelines, CLICK HERE to go directly to POSTS. WHAT'S THE DEAL? The deal is: Everything starts and ends with 18. Pick a topic or subject with “18” at its core. Decide if you want to write prose or poetry about your chosen topic or subject. Whatever you write must be in increments of 18. (For Prose) 18 words or 18 sentences or 18 paragraphs. (For Poetry) 18 words or 18 lines or 18 couplets or 18 quatrains. When you’re ready to submit, you must include an Entry Donation in any denomination of 18 - your choice. WHAT'S THE CATCH? There are two catches. 1. Your submission must be accompanied by an Entry Donation of GPs in denominations of EIGHTEEN. (18, 180, 1,800, 18,000, 180,000) Half will be donated to our favorite charity, "RAOK Upgrade Brigade Group" . The other half will make up the prize monies. The amount of your Entry Donation is up to you. Charity monies and prizes depend upon your decision here. 2. You must *randomly insert the phrase "Happy Birthday WDC" into your submission anywhere you like. We will find it and mention it in your review. Failure to adhere to numbers 1 and 2 or to follow any of our simple rules will disqualify your entry. There can be no exceptions. IS THERE A PROMPT? Yes. (Kind of...) The entry should have something to do with a passage of time. 18 seconds, 18 minutes, 18 hours, 18 days, 18 weeks, 18 months,18 years, 18 decades What about 18 centuries? Can I do that? ... okay Or a birthday or anniversary Or a significant event somehow involving the number ... wait for it ... 18 - - - - - - - - - - Pssssst... HEY! NEED AN IDEA? The characters could all be 18 or have 18 siblings or be on two baseball teams or be celebrating an 18th anniversary maybe they drive a truck with compressed argon (element 18) of course the truck is likely an 18 wheeler or they are from Louisiana (the 18th state) or they are descendants of U.S. Grant (18th president) or the story could be about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake (April 18) or it could be about Paul Revere's ride (April 18) or set on the final hole of a round of golf (on the 18th hole), or... Well, you get the picture. (CAUTION: This list of ideas is from Max Griffin 🏳️🌈 I've heard reports coming out of Oklahoma, he's knocked out the Internet and he has taken to writing ideas on walls and buildings, and possibly cars. It's not really clear. A word of caution, if you see him, don't wind him up! You've been warned.) HOW DOES THIS WORK? You title your post thusly: "Submission, 1800GPs, Poetry" or "Submission, 18,000GPs, Prose" etc. At the top of your entry or item, please include your selected measure. (Words, sentences, paragraphs, lines, couplets, or quatrains). Add your entry to this forum in GENRE format, (G-item) along with your chosen GP Entry Donation.
