The thing I found most interesting about my exploration of Japan was the eighty-eight temple trail which lies on the island of Shikoku.
Japan consists of four main islands, plus over 4,000 smaller islands. Most of the population reside in the largest island, Honshu.
Shikoku was the birthplace of the Buddhist sect Kobo Daishi between (774 and 835AD). Part of the remnants of this philosophy are the eighty-eight temples of Shikoku; a fantastic, if exhausting, trail through this lush island.
