When I was a newbie freshman at college, I made the mistake of calling myself a tennis player. When I was invited to play by a real tennis player--and I could not even touch his serve--it became clear that I was simply a person who "played tennis." And so--not necessarily a writer, I am a person who writes. I write poetry, essays, and--at the age of 60--am working on a memoir. Just getting started on the latter, but so far it has been fun. I am a Christian, husband, father, brother, son--a teacher, runner, and surfer.
