I had my calling to writing in high school but never followed it. 42 years later, writing once again called me. After a very successful but emotionally draining career as an emergency medical physician, my soul was full of empathy and stories about other peoples' suffering. Reality proved to me it was not the physical injuries that caused the most damage but rather the emotional injuries. The physical injuries could be mended, the emotional injuries lingered on.
