how me and someone grew from friends to lovers
When I first met you at a party, you taught me how to play the drums,
You were my crush,
I lied to you about my age,

You called me unexpectedly; I was surprised when I heard your voice,
You were my wish come true,
I thought you were crazy,

Those long over due visits, you drove three hours,
You were my boyfriend,
I held you while you slept,

That night I felt close to you, I asked you again and again,
You were my first,
I wouldn’t have anyone else,

The distance, it restrained us and made us grow apart,
You were my heartbreak,
I cried for days,

That New Year’s Eve, I was hurt that you weren’t mine,
You were my hope,
We kissed and started over again at midnight,

February 16th, we both agreed it was time for it to be over,
You were my friend,
That meaningful friendship kept me going,

By the 23rd I missed you, but by May it was killing me,
You were my missing link,
I argued with myself about calling you,

August I moved to Twin Falls, I couldn’t believe it,
You were my old flame,
You took me to the broken bridge and told me you loved me,

By September, we hung out every chance we could,
You were my diversion,
I didn’t tell you I was sad,

Inescapable grief, I was lost in misery, I called you every night,
You were my drug,
Everything was wrong between us,

Christmas, inevitably we became amorous with time,
You were my unknown love,
I was still captive of mixed feelings,

You called the hotel, puncturing my chest and lungs eternally,
You were my realizing pain,
“I would have never expected this from you.” was your words,

Days after, my omission tormented me, I cleared my head,
You were my true feelings,
I vowed never to take you for granted again,

By spring break, we were inseparable,
You were my everything,
You told me you missed me every night,

You sitting at the airport, it all started sinking in,
You were leaving me,
I cried everyday you were gone,

Last night, we made love; your body feels complete with mine,
You are my lover,
Every morning waking up next to you is wonderful,

Today I watched you pack, it was a cruel look into the future,
You are my future,
You still don’t trust me,

Tomorrow, you’ll be gone, despite how much we’ve grown,
You are my only love,
And I am yours forever…….
