sitting in a place of indescribable beauty, not noticing because suddenly looking, symbolic shining red golden on tree, those apples represent all that she wants. he knows and he sees and he is so lonely, a choice of his own long ago leaves him stranded, the wrath of the mysterious and maybe the jealousy wings ripped away and an endless fall, he needs someone to share his pain, and here is she innocence untainted and ready for influence longing brush of fingers against the smooth red sphere, and now something comes and touches her hair, pulling it back from her ear so that words will be heeded, "you can have all you desire, know everything that he does, why do you think i am as i am? he is drunk on power, he wants to stay above all, and when i questioned this choice it just hastened my fall. come taste the forbidden, and you'll know all you need, maybe even be more powerful and wise than him." unspoken in his head come the honest words, he is so lonely and so sorry, so confused. but she is listening more than he knows and she wants what her creator has. a hiss of satisfaction escapes his mouth as she plucks the apple from the tree, drags her open mouth across it with heated desire, catches her teeth on the sinning skin. Juice of knowledge coats her teeth and she feels the hints of greed and power, murder and sex, money and fame and prosperity. Next as she pulls the meat away and into her mouth she feels starvation and poverty, war and famine and disease. There is hesitation now, but the Devil kisses her neck with confidence renewed and tells her not to be afraid. When she finally crushes that bite in her mouth, it explodes with stars and galaxies, science and culture, mystery and imagination, and most importantly, a new word. Why? Lucifer is awash in triumph, and from the beauty an unwitting Adam steps forward to meet his fate. Eve holds all the power now and for one moment, before she brings the apple to her husband's lips, there is a want to covet, a pride and love for herself that she has never felt before. And up in the sky, God feels his first sins awake. |
