Father/Daughter up's and downs.
My innocence was taken with your bitter rage.
Your gentle hands I ran to in my childhood stage,
erased when I saw you punch my Mama’s face.

My innocence was taken when I heard the woman on the line,
your gentle voice which comforted me when I used to cry,
whispered to her you would leave, now is just not the time.

My innocence was taken during the long and bitter divorce.
Your love that once shined for me was now lost along the course.
A pawn in your game, I still hide my face in shame.

My innocence was taken when I was longing for your love.
I tried everything to show you I was still good enough.
Instead you ignored me so; I took up the drinking and the drugs.

My innocence was taken with all of our angry words.
I told you I hated you, when you said I was no longer your little girl,
I packed my bags and left out into the world.

My innocence was taken when I tried to say goodbye.
You looked at me, and then laughed for the tears I started to cry;
I figured it wouldn’t be long before you would want me back in your life.

My innocence was taken when you didn’t try to call.
You acted like I didn’t exist. I wasn’t a thought to you at all.
I kept on with my head held high. My heart would heal in time.

My innocence was taken and I struggled to survive.
Who would have thought you would need me after all this strife?
You begged me to forgive you. You needed me back in your life.

My innocence was taken the night you bared your soul.
You said you didn’t mean to, you just had to be in control.
You didn’t know how to be there, now you look like a fool.

My innocence was taken by standing up for you Dad.
Why couldn’t you tell the truth? Why couldn’t you be a man?
Couldn’t you live your life without the hurt that made us sad?

My innocence was taken when they took you away.
You were sentenced to ten years, because of your pathetic ways.
You were right though when you said it wasn’t too late,
because in my heart… I love you anyway.
