For Those We Lost

Your precious body is no longer here, it seems,
gone is love and laughter, your hopes and your dreams.

All of the essence that you were has ceased to be,
may you be peaceful, now that life set you free.

In honoring you, I also honor your choice,
when you decided to listen to that inner voice.

The voice inside everyone that rages and screams,
you are not worthy enough, for hopes and dreams.

If our hearts could have listened closer to your thoughts,
could we have stumbled onto the solution you sought.

Sadly, we were busy with our worldly chores,
and we did not know you were closing tight the doors.

We did not listen close, if God sent a message,
that one of our own was in life's darkest passage.

Our wish is that, in the dark there had been some light,
to give comfort, and guide you safely that night.

And now a special person's soul has lost the battle,
we who you left behind are able to hear death's rattle.
