My views on abortion. Not quite what you think. Written for a contest.
This is a story about my views on abortion, but it’s not quite what you think. Some who read this may say since I have never had kids that I should not write on something I know nothing about, but that is not totally true. I want to talk from the perspective of a person who has never had a child but would like to have one someday.
I am one who believes that abortion is not right. But I also believe that if you are someone who has medical problems and a doctor tells you that you should not risk your life to have a child, I can see that side of things. You can always adopt one.
My grandma was such a case. She was one who always had a hard time carrying a child and delivering one. I was told she had several miscarriages. The thing was, the children she had either did not live long after birth or she almost bled to death having them. She was one who believed in the power of “you could do anything you set your mind to”. Problem was that will of hers nearly cost her her life several times. In the end she died of cancer, a bad heart and sugar diabetes.
Grandma loved kids and had them knowing what she was up against. Grandma, true to form, made her choice to have kids. But to me, if things had not been so different in her day and she had done differently and taken better care of herself, she would probably have lived a bit longer than she did, and suffered less. She told me once that if you had a child, God had a special purpose for that child that He granted you the power to have. She never regretted a day she had with her kids. She was very happy when the kids, and then the grandkids were around. People like her you hardly find nowadays and I am proud to say she was a very loving woman.
So if you are one of those who, the next time you look into your child’s eyes you wish you had not had that child, remember there are always those of us out there who would give our eye teeth to have that child you resent so much.
