THE RIVER


The river strung me on the auction block

And hung my flesh up for sale.

The men are laughing.

My knees are weak.

Put the seaweed back on my lips.

Put the locusts back in my throat.

If I walk the way I know how,

Will you sing blue for me, cry,

Let me go,

Back to the banks.
