The thoughts of our lives, reflected in our children.
Through a Child

Through a child's eyes we see
A land of love and fantasy.
Our town displaced in a Lego box,
And animal prints on mix-matched socks.

Through their fingers we touch and feel
The summer's heat and winter's chill.
Fairy tales and legends told,
They pray they never get too old.

Through their skin we feel their pain
From a father's beating, gone in vain,
Are a mother's tears that fall too much,
And the long lost love of a brother's touch.

From their feet we touch the ground,
Feeling life from this merry-go-round.
A gentle giggle, we can't understand.
A forgotten gesture from innocent hands.

Through their lips we speak the words
Of loving songs and things unheard.
A tender heart in the locks of time,
We know not the thoughts of a child's mind.

A place that's long lapsed out of thought,
This abandoned hope that adulthood brought.
The toys we've packed in a cardboard box,
The imaginations we seemed to have lost.

The things we always pretended to be,
This is what a child sees.
An example set from those before,
We guide the future more and more.

Through a child things unfold,
Their eyes is what the future holds.
Violence, pain, and misery
This is what a child sees.
