maybe he'd get it right this time
He hadn't driven since the encounter with Harry's garage. Oh, what a day of pain and embarrassment that was. Just gonna go for a ride in mom's car, that was the thought. Who cares that he hadn't yet been licensed by the state of New York to do so. And when he was confronted with those two pedals below the steering wheel, it only seemed logical to drive with both feet. So when he pulled into Harry's driveway to begin the afternoons' festivities, everything was going according to plan. That's when he forgot that the brake was on the left. Oops! Right through the garage door. Boy, the scolding he had gotten. And the restitution! He wouldn't see another allowance until his graduate studies in college. Surely he'd learned a valuable lesson.

Nicki. The beautiful Nicki. She was a vision of perfection. Her every move was studied by the student body at Anytown High School. Well, maybe just 50% of the students. At any rate, she had his attention. And she had heard from somewhere that he had a car. That he had a license and could drive. When she asked him if he would like to take her for a spin after school, well surely it would be understood that he HAD to say yes. So he did, all 15 years of his life seemingly pointing to this moment, this opportunity to mingle with this goddess.

So there he was. In the car. Keys in the ignition. He almost had an intelligent thought, and then Nicki's face flashed in his head. He couldn't break his promise to her. He always kept his word. Well, not really...but this time he would. He started the car. He revved the engine. Woh! One foot this time, he thought. Then a vision appeared in his head. It was his parents. And his hopes of ever receiving an allowance. He shut the car off. Man, responsibility is a drag.
