Remember Them

Thinking back on time,
searching through recollection,
Do you remember those who fought,
for yours and my protection?

Sifting through the faces,
drifting through your thoughts,
Realizing that so many died,
ties the heart in knots.

There are many out there,
from the war that still survive,
And now we must treasure them,
as long as they're alive.

For although there were once,
Veterans of great numbers,
Sick and forgotten,
they give way to endless slumbers.

So as long as all the veterans last,
let's show them clear and loud,
to have had them fight a war for us,
it really makes us proud.
