A 'forget-me-not' message from the beloved to the lover
FORGET ME NOT

I hope that you forget me not;
A day without you, I see not.

When you leave never to return,
Let such day in my life be not.

Come rain or shine, pleasure or pain,
From my embrace you may flee not.

Let this bond forever endure,
From this I want to be free not.

At least visit me in my dream,
My love, reject my this plea not.

God knows Khalish our love is pure,
Separation He will decree not.

* Written in 8-8 format

* A ghazal consists of couplets in which the last 1-3 words of both lines of the first couplet and each second line of the subsequent couplets are repeated as refrain, while the word immediately preceding the refrain is a rhyming one and is called mono-rhyme. For a detailed note on ghazal, please see "WHAT IS A GHAZAL AND HOW TO WRITE IT?Open in new Window..

* The word Khalish included in the last couplet is the pen name of the poet. Such inclusion is a common practice in classical ghazal writing. Khalish is an Urdu word meaning ache or pain.
