A real Prayer
My Prayer

Tonight as I got on my knees to pray,
Emptying out my head and heart
I began Oh Father show me your will
I paused listening to the air so still
Speak, Father, and from me never depart
Father let my feet from your path never stray

There in that place I listened barely breathing
For my prayer was earnest and my desire deep
Father do not burden me with worry and sorrow
For these days many things cause my brow to furrow
Yet there is a thing for which I weep
Father uphold my heart let it keep believing

My Father you sent me an angel of love
He has held me in his arms of comfort
He has stroked my hair and whispered his care
His countenance is like the sun and so fair
My soul he has tended and given it support
This with words as soft as the wings of a dove

The stillness grew deeper and I listened intent
For I wished for nothing but Your voice to hear
Father please draw near, let Your will be seen
Father I wish to love your angel whom I esteem
This angel a man hand outstretched I cannot fear
Please Father keep his heart this angel you sent

My desire, my love, my entire reason is him
Father speak to me please show me the way
Give Your daughter a heart of the finest gold
Let it hear Your voice let her be very bold
I waited patiently for his voice at the break of day
There in the semidarkness He spoke it was Him.

Becky my daughter, He whispered draw near
My heart stopped afraid the sound would interfere
Father escaped my lips oh my Father so dear
You He said have seen my will and yet you fear
I am your shepherd, your shield and spear
This my son I have sent your life to steer

There in that stillness He showed me LOVE
Real and unabashed complete and full
God knows all and he knows you
He knows you will be as the morning dew
Your love my heart and soul to you pull
Becky, His voice said, my son will bring you love

I closed my eyes and squeezed them tight
My Father thank you in you is all
Your Son you gave for us
His life given His body on a cross
This to keep us from the fall
This to help us put up a good fight.
