A poetic adaptation of a short story I received of unknown origin...Would make a good RAP
                             THE ROCK

I was asleep in my cabin in the hills one night.
When I woke with a start to a blindin' light.
A voice spoke to me, low, strong and clear.
Said, "I gotta job for you, so you'd better draw near."
                   "You're gonna push!"

God showed me a rock in my front yard that night.
Told me to push against that boulder with all of my might.
From sun up to sun down, day after day,
Year after year against that rock I slaved,
                   And I pushed!

Each night I returned fell exhausted in bed.
"What a waste! What's the use! Why even bother!" I said.
Then the Devil showed up. Said, "That rock won't budge and inch!
So back off. Don't kill yourself! Take it easy! Life's a cinch!
                   So don't push!"

So I said to myself, "That's what I'll do."
But something deep in my soul told me, "don’t be such a fool!"
I told God; "Year after year I've strained against that stone.
I gave it all and yet I feel I'm such a failure," I moaned,
                   "When I pushed!"

Then God spoke to me. He said, "Listen my son.
I called you to serve me and that you have done.
I never did expect you to move that stone.
From eternity the work I planned for you alone
                   Was just to push!

And now you come to me with your strength all spent.
Thinking that you failed, wondering what it all meant.
Let's stop and take another look from my point of view.
Have you ever stopped to think of how that rock has changed you
                   When you pushed?

Take a look at yourself, your arms muscled and strong.
Your sinewy back is well defined and brown.
You have powerful hands, legs massive and hard.
You're stronger though you haven't moved that rock in your yard
                   When you pushed!

Your calling was to follow me obediently.
To push and exercise your faith, trusting only in me.
This you have done. You've been faithful and true.
Now, step aside and watch cause that rock's going to move
                   'Cause I’ll push!"

Sometimes when we receive a word from God in our hearts,
We tend to use our intellect, deciphering what He wants.
All He really wants from us is to listen and obey.
And to put all our faith in Him each moment of the day.
                   That's how we push.

If all the faith you have is like a tiny mustard seed,
Jesus said you'd move a mountain if you'd trust Him and believe.
By all means, use your faith that can make the mountains shake!
But remember, it's not you... But God who makes them quake!
                   When you push!!

So when things go wrong and nothing seems to go right,
When people you're with just want to argue and fight,
When they don't behave the way you think they should,
When your money's gone, bills are due and credits no good,
                   You just PUSH!

         Pray Until Something Happens!
