Suicide of a 22 year old great nephew - dealing with the news in my own way

CHARMING BILLY

On September seventh he chose to die -
I had just learned and was asking why
A life so young, in the tenderest years,
You searched for happiness, found tears.

Where have you gone, charming Billy?

In your mind there was only raging pain
Seemed nothing would be all right again -
A sad twist of fate, and hands of time
Never brought you to these arms of mine.

Where have you gone, charming Billy?

Those who grieve are left behind
A gunshot ends any chance to find
Peace here on earth and so it ends;
You take the road and follow friends.

Where have you gone, charming Billy?

Without a chance to say goodbye
Nothing left for us to do but I cry
For a little boy that I never knew
Tell me, Bill, why was it you?

Where have you gone, charming Billy?

They say acceptance comes with time -
And we go on, just as if all were fine,
While you travel on in headlong haste
But what a waste, Bill - what a waste!

Where have you gone, charming Billy?

You never got to see the sky
So blue and beautiful, and why
Did you never seek out the hills
Where peace reigns without the ills
Of a trampled soul, the tension builds.

I know where you have gone, charming Billy.

You never knew your granddad, it's true.
Before you were born he had left us too;
Killed in an accident but had he lived on
He'd have been so proud of his grandson.

I hope that he was there to greet you
Hold you close, and finally meet you -
All things are changed if we believe
So there is no need for us to grieve -

Yet, we weep for days that cannot be,
When you took the path that set you free.
We may never know or understand
Why you died by your own hand.

Dedicated to my great nephew, Bill.
I pray you find the peace you needed here -
God bless and protect your soul -
See you up there, kid..

Light a candle, say a prayer - for Bill
