An Angel's wings are more then what they seem...
One night, in my dreams,
I flew across the sky
On wings of silver satin
But for some reason I sigh:

“There must be something better
Then just floating on the breeze!
Something more satisfying
Then soaring over trees...”

So I flew across the fields,
Cross the deserts, cross the plain,
Shivered on top a snowy mount,
Glided through the driving rain,

Then I met a kind old man
Who knew of my dreadful plight,
He gave me a proposition
To try to make it right:

“How about this, sad angel,
Bright siren of the sky,
Would you give up your wings
So you could no longer fly?

No longer sail on the wind
Or on the clouds would you lie,
But instead be human, and walk on the earth,
Would you like to give it a try?”

So I said goodbye to the free blue sky,
And came upon the Earth,
And saw around me a brand new world
Carpeted with a grassy turf

The trees, oh the trees
Who had seemed so dull from the sky,
Were now masterpieces of foreign wonder
That brought delightment to my eye

I ran through those masterful trees
Silvery laughter escaping my lips,
Until I came upon a strange square tree
And touched it with my fingertips

The pain, oh the pain!
How it tore from within me!
But the agonizing pain was not my own,
It was the pain from the tree

A whirring blade, a mortal cut,
I tore me right in half
And when I woke, I felt as weak,
As a newborn calf

Softness covered my entire body
I was warm from head to toe
But I noticed something was definitely wrong,
And suddenly I screamed, “NOOOO!”

The wind was gone from the air!
I jumped from the bed to the ground
I longed to feel the silky wind,
But it was nowhere to be found!

Pure terror rang throughout my body
It corrupted my very soul,
Till it finally took control of me
And I jumped through the window

Breaking glass absorbed my hearing
Blood filled my crying eyes,
But I smiled gently, not noticing my wounds,
Because I saw the skies!

The beautiful blue enveloped me
As I sat up slowly and carefully,
And I silently swore to myself
To never give up being free

With unknown strength I bounded
Through the woods to the meadow plain
And found the old man, who said at once,
“Would you like your wings again?”

He gave them to me without a fuss,
And I put them on clumsily
And the old man whispered in my ear,
“Always be who you want to be.

You may be happy with who you are,
And that is very nice,
But before you try to change yourself
Always think twice.”
