Chapt. 3- Psychologist/sleuth gets closer to
the truth concerning death of a patient. |
Chapter 3 Dr. Phil Martin was sitting in the parking lot when Sam Dunn left New Horizons. The only other car in the small lot belonged to Kelly Anderson. It wasn’t unusual for her to be there after hours but the fact that she had been meeting with Sam Dunn didn’t sit well with Dr. Martin. Sam Dunn was a good friend of Grant Michaels’s. People were getting suspicious. Soon they would have to be stopped. He wasn’t prepared to give up everything for a worthless, non-contributing member of society like Grant Michaels. He would have to consider damage control plans. Absently rubbing at his five-o’clock shadow with his thumb and index finger he muttered to himself, “Where should I begin?” ************************************** Sam Dunn knew it was a bad decision, but he was feeling the loss of his friend and knew he could find comfort with Sheila. The problem was that Sheila was a cocktail waitress at Benny’s Pub. Sam was a recovering alcoholic who had been sober since the last time he and Grant had gone out drinking. Going into Benny’s to wait for Sheila to go on break would put him close to temptation. “Okay, I can handle this,” Sam assured himself. He stood in the doorway and surveyed the small barroom looking for Sheila. He spotted her almost immediately after his eyes adjusted to the smoky gloom. He waved her over to the door. “Hey, didn’t expect to see you here tonight. What’s up?” Sheila gave him a quick kiss. “I’m not feeling so hot. You always make me feel better so I thought I’d come by and see if you were do for a break.” Sheila glanced at her watch, “Sorry, love, not for another half hour at least. You don’t want to be hanging out in here do you?” “Nah, I’ll be in the truck. Come out as soon as you can?” he raised his eyebrows hopefully. “Sure, I’ll be out as soon as I can,” she winked at him and headed back into the barroom. Sam, feeling better already, headed back to his truck never noticing the black sedan parked next to the dumpster. |
