What Happened? “It was starting to rain. I had to get to the car, and stay dry. I went out the door, running, but the car door was locked! All the car doors! I never lock my car! As I rummaged through my purse as quickly as possible, I suddenly remembered I’d laid my keys on the counter yesterday, trying to remind myself that my key chain needed fixing! And the rain was getting rainier. I ran back but the door was locked! I automatically locked it as I came out! I was getting wetter by the second. So, I ran to the front door, hoping it was not locked. But it was. Then I remembered you put a key somewhere in the back because you said your grandmother told you it was important Thirty-seven years ago when you were six… but still the same lock, I just hoped it was still there. I ran to the edge of the house where the large rock was that had been there since they built the house. I was hoping I could find the smaller one that was sitting over the spare key. I haven’t thought about it for years. And I already needed at least a dry shirt if not more. I dug around the rock, and finally found the key! Now, I needed to change all my clothes, and definitely clean my fingernails! As I stood up, soaking wet, holding the key, I startled a bird that had just landed on the big rock. It screeched! I dropped the key! And as I leaned down to pick it back up, a squirrel ran out, screeched too, and ran off, with the key!” “So,” my husband said, “that’s why you’re all wet?” “Yes…” He unlocked the door, then he laughed all night… |
