Made My Day Taking my daily, though not desired, walk in the park. The walking was required, according to my doctor. She said it was daily exercise- or I would be sorry. I found it amazing that so many people thought they knew more about my life than I did. On the other hand, I had to admit I had been feeling better since I started the daily walks, even though I dreaded them. Every now and then I checked my watch. The doctor said half an hour, so when I hit half an hour, I tried to be near where I parked. No sense in walking more than required… Aiming toward the parking lot now, but still going over issues (this time, if I should or shouldn’t repaint the bathroom) I suddenly heard a noise. Thinking bird maybe? I looked around. There standing at the edge of the woods was a child, seemingly alone. If it was later I wouldn’t worry, but it was quite early, and I couldn’t see any adults nearby. Also, the child looked nervous. I walked toward her, assuming she would turn and run if she knew where her parent was. She did not. And as I got closer, I could see she was nervous. “You must be trying to find the parking lot,” I said, loudly. “I’m going there, you can follow me.” I turned and walked toward the parking lot. Peeking behind, I could see she was following. “What is your name?” I asked. “Cindy…” I heard a little voice say. Suddenly a loud voice came from in front of us, “Cindy! There you are! Don’t go running off again you might get lost!” As the tiny person ran past me, she looked up, smiling, and softly said “Thank you!” It made my day. |
