The Impact of Globalization on Local Economies: Discuss the positive and negative effects

Globalization has changed the way interact with each other and do business. Previously, when we wanted to buy a book we would go to our local bookstore. Now we would most likely go to Amazon and might even be using a Kindle. In other words, globalization may have made it easier for us to do commerce but it has done so at the expense of small businesses.
One could argue that globalization and capitalism go hand in hand. Big and powerful nations impose their business models on less powerful nations. With that view in mind it would make sense for Google Amazon Meta and Microsoft to be the biggest companies on the market. Globalization in this sense doesn't just kill small businesses but entire countries have to submit to firms of more powerful nations.

Admittedly, big companies, who are mostly headquartered in powerful countries, are the ones who have contributed to improving the lives of millions. I use both Gmail and outlook and I couldn't live without them as use send to connect with friends and costumers. Capitalism along with globalization is what makes these technologies and high quality services possible. Many businesses wouldn't be able to function properly without them.
Restaurants and hotels are other types businesses that have been thriving thanks to Google. Positive comments tend to give more value to the brand of these businesses and attract more costumers. And it would also force other business to improve as by default all business should appear on Google. Of course restaurants and other business have but to have a website and address and strive to be at the top of the list of web-searches. In these cases, globalization is a win-win and has a positive impact on small business and society as a whole.
I personally find it fascinating to be able discover the local bars and restaurants on a map of the city I live in. Overall, local economies are doing better thanks to services offered by Google. Amazon has definitely destroyed a lot of bookstores, though not all. As Amazon sells more and more ebooks some people have a nostalgia for physical books and are more likely to patronage their local bookstores (if they still exist).
The food instrudry has also been greatly impacted by globalization. Farmers in the European Union for instance now have to compete unfairly with those from South American countries that have lower standards of quality and safety. This is of course due to the demand of lower prices by consumers. The ultimate goals of globalization should be to improve people's quality of life and standard of living, not making it worse.
Yet, in the farming industry case, it is a clear counterexample that shows globalization doesn't make people's lives better but worse while killing small businesses. It is also a sad example of what greedy capitalism can do. Ultimately, people will have to use critical thinking and carefully choose what they consume as politicians are losing total control over regulations. This should minimize the clear bad effects of globalization on small business and people's standard of living and quality of life. In others words, while globalization has had made people's lives worse in some aspect it has also given power to the people to make the right decisions to improve their lives.
