Determined to get a decent picture for my school project I headed off with my camera. If I went all the way around the block I would pass a small woods, then the pond. I should be able to find something to take a picture of. Our assignment was to draw a picture, from a picture. Our art teacher was challenging us, or so he thought.

I had broken the strap on my camera when I was trying to whip it out quickly. Lost that picture fighting the strap, so now I had it on a piece of skinny rope, hanging around my neck so it couldn’t get stuck anywhere else. Plus, no bike. I was treating this walk like a treasure hunt. What would I see? Whatever I found, my camera and I were ready.

Just as I got to the edge of the trees overlooking the pond, there it was. The perfect picture. Right at the edge too, so I would get the trees, and the pond, and the beautiful ducks floating along. There were three, all white, so beautiful, and they hadn’t even noticed me! They were peacefully floating along in the warm afternoon sun. I had my entire drawing plotted out in seconds.

I took three pictures, just in case. All so beautiful I knew I would be hard put on deciding which one was the best. I’d have Dad print them as soon as he got home from work! Life was good!

Until Dad printed them… and came up with three pictures of a leaf. It was apparently stuck on my lens, I never noticed it, so it was still there. Well, with no more time, I just used the leaf for my art project. And, it was perfect, I got an A.
