I came across a scene* in a book I was reading, and well this... Title?
I've tried praying to a god I don't believe in,
Tried to keep on smiling through,
Wiped my eyes to keep the pain in,
Wondered what else I have to do.

I wished upon a star, roaming in the dark,
Hoping that you'd see me,
Fan the flames of a dying spark,
And hear me calling, my silent plea.

You burnt like a nova,
I was caught in your flames,
Now I'm lost in the shadows,
And It's hard to explain.

I stayed there beside you, I didn’t slip,
Gave you everything, all I could give,
Words stayed unspoken, I kept a grip,
From out of the shadows, I tried to live.

Male lead, Female counterpoint
You burnt like a nova (He burnt out my heart)
I was caught in your flames (was shot down in flames)
Now I'm lost in the shadows (need someone to turn to)
And It's hard to explain (I can’t handle the pain)

You didn’t see me, I’m hidden from sight,
Lost in the darkness, looking for light,
So I wrote you this letter, poured out my heart,
If I’m living without you, we're better apart.

Female lead
You stood by my side, but I couldn’t see,
I’ll love you forever (Just not in that way),
The depth of your love, what you meant to me,
There’re no winners, in this game that we play.

Male Lead (M), Female Lead (F), Together (T):
(M) You burnt like a nova (He burnt out my heart),
(F) I was caught in the flames (I was shot down in flames),
(M) Now I'm lost in the shadows (Needed someone to turn to),
(T) And it's hard to explain...
(F) You stood by my side, but I couldn't see (The days that I held you),
(M) I'll love you forever (but it’s not meant to be),
(T) The depth of your love, what you meant to me,
(T) There're no winners, in this game that we play,
(T - fading) (This game that we play)

*Very briefly, the scene in the book (sci-fi) was that of an onlooker watching a woman being spurned by an older man that she adored, set against the backdrop of the darkness of space, ships 'gating' into the system providing flashes of light. She's rejected, crumples and falls, he picks her up and is rejected in turn.
