A small gnat and a big fly once flew about the same river side looking for a bite to eat. The big fat fly came across the small insignificant gnat as it flew about the place and said to it ‘I am so glad that I am a big old fly that can get around the river with ease and eat my fill. I am not a tiny little fellow like you of whom no-one ever takes notice.’ It said with a laugh as it noisily buzzed about the place. ‘It is true that I am but a tiny little gnat who goes unnoticed by all.’ replied the little chap and flew alongside the fat fly a while longer. But unknown to them they were both being watched by a hungry old bullfrog who was sitting under a leaf close by hoping to make one of them his next tasty meal. ‘Well the gnat it to small to make a tasty bite,’ said the old frog to himself ‘I think I’ll just help myself to this scrumptious fat fly instead, said he, and zapped the big fly straight out of the air with his sharp tongue devouring the whole fellow in one go. ‘How fortunate am I that I am too small to make a tasty bite for a mean old frog,’ thought the tiny gnat to himself. ‘And to think that I was just regretting being so small and insignificant for a while back there.’ He said to himself with a smile as he flew happily away. It is true that size does count but not always as one might expect. Bigger is not always better after all.
