He was a Yippie all his life
When Abbie was convicted
He was 33 years old,
A long time member of the
Youth International Party
Old enough to realize
Civil Rights are more than
An adolescent phase.
From February 18, 1970,
he didn’t make it past two more decades;
He saw his mother’s illness,
A generation of Reagan youth,
And the mourning of his ideals.
If he had lived to 2025, he’d have turned 89,
Long enough to see a time we’d long for even
Congressional protections.
He may have been today’s Bernie Sanders,
But we lost him in 1989.
