Love Lost

“I never want to see you again,” Val shouted.

When Heartly the Love Dragon heard that in passing, he stopped and hovered in the air. He looked down at the poor swain that she was yelling at.

“I’ll have to help this poor guy out,” he told himself.

He loaded a lavender tipped arrow from his pouch into his bow. After all these years, the love dragon was very accurate. The arrow hit home, and the man disappeared.

“This Val person hasn’t even noticed, she’s so busy being angry about whatever it is she angry about.”

Curious, Heartly decided to follow her and find out more. He could hear her still fuming aloud an hour later.

“Big man for promises! I was supposed to get all day and night with him. What happens? He forgot and booked a sports day with his men friends!”

Heartly shook his head at human stupidity and not for the first time. He watched Val begin to droop as her angry walk ended.

“Why doesn’t he love me? I love him!”

Heartly decided to bring back this guy so he could do better. He notched a second lavender arrow and shot it straight up into the air.

Nothing. No return of the loved one.

“That’s never happened before!”

Since he had no more of the correct arrows, he couldn’t try again.

“I’ll keep an eye on Val. Maybe 24 hours has to pass for reversal to happen. I’ve never used those arrows before, after all.”

He followed the weeping human female home.

“There’s someone on her doorstep,” he opined.

“Sweetheart! I’m so sorry! I cancelled every plan I made to be with you.” a familiar voice said to Val.

She fell into his arms, and all was right with Heartly’s world once more.
