Like Father, Like Son

Dad walked out the back door, and seeing his son Jason standing there he asked, “What’s the plan?”

“What?” Jason asked.

“You look like you’re planning something.”

“No,” he said, looking sad.

“What’s up?”

“Nothing…”

But it sounded like a big nothing, “Why don’t we go get coffee?” Dad said.

“Sure,” Jason answered, unenthusiastically.

In the car, Jason suddenly asked, “When did you meet Mom?”

Now, sure that it was girl troubles, Dad answered, “We lived close to each other, I kind of knew her since I grade school.”

“Really?…” he asked, “and when did you start dating?

“When we were in college.”

“What? But if you knew her since you were in grade school…”

“Yes, I knew her, just like I knew all the kids in my class. Frankly I thought she was a pain in the you know what. She and her girlfriends made fun of me all the time!”

“Well, what happened?”

“I got a crush on her in high school. But due to our relationship I never thought she’d even talk to me let alone go on a date. But then, when we popped up at the same college, it was different.”

“So, you asked her out?”

“Well… no… she actually asked me out.” Dad laughed.

“Are you kidding?”

“I am not. I always thought she hated me! But once we got away from her friends, and my friends… well, suddenly things were different. She even told me that if I had gotten up the courage to ask her out earlier, she would have said yes…”

“Really?”

“Absolutely!”

Once they got home, Jason suddenly had to go to the park.

“Where is Jason going?” Mom asked Dad.

“I think he’s going to find his fate,” Dad said.

“Like father like son?”

“Could be,” Dad said, smiling.
