A cheap car got me a long way.

I bought a used, 1976 Datsun B210 for $500 and some decent pot. The year was 1990.

The damned thing ran great. I treated it well, though I asked a lot of it.

One day, I knew something was terribly wrong. It was losing power and often sputtering.

The first thing I checked was the oil. The only reason to find water in it had to be a blown head gasket.

Screw me. Fortunately, my stepdad, Ron was selling repair manuals of all kinds. But they were originally marketed for the British.

A wrench is a spanner, a hood is a bonnet, a windshield is a screen, gasoline is petrol.
And yes, all the measurements are Metric.

Given that, the tech aspects were spot on.

I really needed that car, so I went to Sears and bought 101 piece mechanics tool set for $99 and change.

Getting the head off wasn't too bad.

A neighbor said that it'll probably need to be milled.

I checked. It looked pretty smooth.

When I bought the gasket, a sales guy recommended I buy a can of Copper Spray a Gasket. Apply liberally to both sides of the new gasket. After torquing it down, getting the timing chain on dead center was a drag.

All new oil and fluids and VROOM VROOM!

The gal ran better than ever.
