Elena Waverly transforms. 300 words
The Mermaid Effect

Elena Waverly looked at her hair in the mirror and sighed.

“It’s so dry. I must treat it at once. I hope I can keep my secret!”

She put on a loose dress that she got for these occasions. Donning a wide brim hat and flip flops, she started out for the ocean. Luckily, it was not far from where she now lived, so she could walk.

“What a beautiful day. The water will be wonderful too,” she told herself.

Within half an hour, she was there. Throwing off her clothes on the isolated beach, she ran for the waves. As she launched into a swan dive, her legs turned to a tail.

As she swam deeper her whole body seemed to sigh. Healthy pink and blue hair floated around her. Finally, she saw the coral and shell castle of the King.

“Lord Poseidon, grant me an audience!”

Guards appeared with tridents to escort her inside. Once in his presence, she threw herself down in obeisance.

“Elena, my daughter!” he telepathed while opening his arms wide

She swam into them, and she was hugged mightily.

“Tell me, you are back to stay.”

“No, the task you gave me is not done. Humans have not changed their ways concerning the oceans. I still have work to do.”

She proceeded to report to him all the things that had happened. When she was done, the King was frowning.

“Are you sure one of your older sisters shouldn’t take over this task. Perhaps it is too much for you.”

She broke from his sheltering arm and bowed down before him.

“I want to continue. I need to prove myself!” she told him.

“Very well, farewell for now, my daughter!” he said as she swam away back to the surface world.
