Jared’s Plan (Bradbury week 2)

Jared Steele was at the home of his mistress. He was making out with her with intensity. Their passionate emotions caused them to dump a plate of nachos from the coffee table onto the carpet.

“Look what happened!” the young woman said, with anger in her voice.

“These things happen,” Jared replied.

“When are you going to get rid of your wife?” she asked.

“Why do it now?” Jared asked.

“The insurance policy was approved, it came in the mail today. If you kill her, you can cash it in for a huge payday! I was thinking of getting a mansion in Cabo!”

“I guess now is as good a time as ever,” Jared replied.

The young woman went to a safe, punched in the combination, and pulled out a small glass jar with brown liquid. She closed the safe, and headed back to the couch and handed it to Jared.

“This is a fast acting poison, and it leaves no traces in her bloodstream. I looked it up online!”

Jared held the small jar aloft in his hand. “Tracy isn’t enthusiastic about just gulping down anything I give her, we might have to try this more than once.”

The two embraced and shared a kiss.

Just then, everything started spinning. The room seemed to swirl around him, then everything went black. Jared awakened strapped down to a gurney. A doctor he didn’t recognize and his wife Tracy were watching a video monitor.

“Everything you just dreamed was on the monitor, Jared! So you’re that quick to take my life?”

Tracy turned to the doctor administering the mind control experiment. “I want to file for a divorce immediately, can I use this video as evidence in divorce court?”

“Yes, it has been established that this type of evidence is legal and binding,” the doctor replied.

Just then, it all came flooding back to Jared. His wife hadn’t been trusting him now that he had been cheating on her with Cammie. She had been pestering him for weeks to volunteer for the mind control experiment, so she could verify whether he was telling her the truth. She had been able to somehow sense that he wasn’t loyal to her.

Jared had broken up with Cammie before the experiment, but his subconscious mind was still holding onto her. He knew his relationship with Tracy was finished as he unplugged the electrodes from his head.
