An illustration of parallel thinking
Trick of the mind

Sam sat at his computer desk on the coldest winter day in a coastal city in Washington State. He felt prepared for a boring hour of study and programming. Then, he glanced up and saw a fly imprisoned between the outside insulating windowpane, and the insulated inside windowpane.
"Oh, that poor fly", he thought. He went to the window, opened it, and let the fly inside.
"Oh no, there is a pesky fly". The next instant, he clapped it, instantly killing it.
