“So you get the puppy, and I get the dragon?” James asked. I simply nodded and ran my fingers through the animal’s silky fur. “That’s it?” He moaned deflatedly. “I have a life to get back to…” “You have a life here! Now!” It all hinged on one serious sticking point. This time the portal would close forever, and the magial land of Amalia didn’t have coffee, or French Vanilla creamer. If I had known this was my last trip I would have brought a supply to wean myself off of it. The magic of this world made any kind of withdrawal as bad as the withdrawal heroine addicts went through on earth. I already had the sweats. “I can’t go through it again!” “Why did you allow yourself to become addicted again?” He asked. “It’s freaking coffee. Not a controlled substance on earth! Everywhere you go they offer you coffee!” “I will never understand that world.” “Which is why you are keeping Drago and staying here,” “Muffy, won’t grow up to talk in your world…” “I can live with that.” “Give me time to find another portal to your world. I’ll get you coffee!” I threw up my hands. Muffy flinched. “The promise of future coffee won’t help me now. The portal is closing I have to go!” “Then go!” As he turned and walked away, I wondered if I'd ever see him again. We'd gone on some great adventures together, though it all started with a simple wrong number. I stepped one foot through the portal and chuckled to myself “Call me!” I hollered at him as I stepped the rest of the way through the portal. 279 words prompt ▼ |
