An apostrophe to a staircase's railing.
O most faithful Railing, ever thou art there
Yet never here. Weathered as thou dost come
From the harshness of time; an unlikely pair.
Though unnoticed and used only by some,
Thou visionless eyes see and treat with care.
Silent as a schoolboy, whose heart is numb,
Thou hear our cries of deepest despair.
A witness to our lives, let not a crumb.

Thick varnish drips in careless streams,
Thou glossy veil hides and yet reveals,
O’er carved marks where the sun beams.
The grainy truth of the wood still appeals.
Thou corpse dost lay on display, it seems,
Though inside, yet nothing thoust feels.
Imperfections bursting from the seams,
A tale of beauty and time no varnish seals.
