I have had this account for eleven years, yet this is my first post. Fear has kept me from doing everything I say I should be doing. I'm much older now and finally have the courage to do this. At my age, I can say, "What have I got to lose?"

When too much time passes, and I don't write, my mind won't leave me alone. It is as if my mind is being held in a vice grip, squeezing until I pick up a pen and paper. Only after I put words to paper do I get relief. Most of my writing is personal insights, but I get relief from writing anything.

I have used paper journals and fountain pens, pocket journals, electronic tablets, blogs, you name it, and I have probably used it. Now, I want to get started. I consider "getting started" when I get to the point where I do some writing every day consistently. So far, I have written here and there in spurts but never consistently.

I have done some research into writing, and the advice is the same: pick a time of day, pick the number of words, and pick for how long. It's not easy when you work full time, but I am convinced that my mind will not leave me alone unless I make the effort. Again, what have I got to lose?
