Inspired by John William Waterhouse's "Soul of a Rose," and my once good friend.
My love, she has the soul of a rose;
as pure a white
and undefiled
as the God she loves
so dear

My love, she has the soul of a rose;
as bright a yellow
as the sun and
stars, glowing softly
in the darkness

My love, she has the soul of a rose;
as pink as the dust
sprinkled on her cheeks
when the cold winter
sighs

My love, she has the soul of a rose;
her crimson blush at
each tender caress,
flushed face turning
in flirtatious modesty

My love, she has the soul of a rose;
her ruby lips calling
out my name at every breath,
as soft as
petals on my cheek

My love, she has the soul of a rose;
her scarlet heart
beats to the rhythm
of life as we go
together

My love, she has the soul of a rose;
burgundy stains on
my neck, grasping
at every breath
as she whispers

My love, she has the soul of a rose;
as black as the night
that hides her from me,
now and forever:
the great Unknown
