Park Walk

Walking in the park, required at my age. Not the park, the walk. I’m told, and believe, if you stop getting exercise for too long, you’re toast. I go to the park because I don’t have to talk to anybody. Not that I’m antisocial, just not particularly… social.

This morning was a bit cool. I knew that and brought my sweater, but in the open park it was cooler than I expected. Not wanting to go back for a coat, I decided to take a path through the trees hoping it would be warmer.

I’d never been there before. I prefer the open areas, where I can see everyone, feel safer. But this was a small woodsy area, new enough to be interesting. As I rounded a corner, I saw a tower! It was surrounded by trees, small, but one I didn’t even know existed, and I’ve walked here for years! I had to go check it out.

The face of the tower aimed toward my walk so I could see it was just a decoration. Fake windows, but a door that was open. I walked up and peeked in. It was empty.

However, there was a long string coming down from the inside ceiling. I know I should have left it alone. But curiosity doesn’t fade just because you’re old… I went in and pulled it softly, just to see what it was.

Suddenly a loud musical started blasting from the ceiling! I jumped a mile! I tried to turn it off but couldn’t, so I took off!

Hiding in the trees I watched as a couple park workers come by, and turned it off, laughing. I heard them say something about kids as they walked away. Kind of cool, me a kid again.

Frankly, it made my day!
