Circumstances

“I can’t find it anywhere.”

“Whatcha doing Gram?” Allie’s voice came from behind her, making her jump.

“Goodness child! Don’t sneak up on people!!!”

“I wasn’t sneaking. I said ‘Hi, Gram,’ you just didn’t hear me, what’cha looking for?

“You don’t have to help me Sweety.”

“I want to! You know, I’m big now!”

Gram looked at the almost five-year-old Allie, who was feeling big. “Well! I guess you are big. I’m looking for my wallet.”

“Oh… it’s in my room…”

Gram froze at the thought, but gained composter as she turned around, “Oh! I never thought to look in there. How did it get into your room?”

“Pecky brought it in.”

“Pecky? … Pecky is a dog, why would she have my wallet?”

“Alan said it was because your wallet smells like food.”

“It does not!” Gram said, “My wallet doesn’t smell!”

“Don’t be silly Gram, Alan said it only smells like food to Pecky! He said its from you putting it in your pocket after you ate that hamburger yesterday.”

Suddenly Gram got to feeling that things were getting out of hand here, so she asked, “Why did it end up in your room?”

“Alan had to go to football, and he didn’t want Pecky to get it again, so he told me to put it on my shelf in my room and I did! Oh, I think I was supposed to tell you too… I forgot. Do you want me to go get it?”

“That would be lovely. And since I have my wallet now, and it’s Saturday, we could go get ice cream! What do you say?”

“I say yippie!! What do you say?”

“Yippee!!” Gram said back. And the day turned from a lost wallet scare, to a lovely outing at the ice cream parlor.
