Penguin wants to hug all penguins from around the world |
Prologue: History of the Lost Frostbite Penguins A long, long time ago, a group of penguins set out to go fishing and return to feed the rest of the colony. While out at sea, there was a great, dark, windy storm. The storm grew stronger and stronger with each passing moment. The storm grew so big and strong that it carried the penguins out to the middle of nowhere in the ocean; they were lost and adrift. They saw an iceberg floating that was big enough to hold them all, so they climbed on and waited for the large iceberg to hit land. It took many, many days for the iceberg to finally stop. It was extremely cold where they landed, thankfully these penguins had thicker layers of feathers and were sort of resistant to cold. As time passed, these penguins made their homes in the frozen wastelands of the Northwestern Fjords of Greenland. Over time, they became known as the Lost Frostbite Clan. At one point they were a lot like their ancestors the Fiordland penguins, but over time these Lost Frostbite penguins had changed. They were bigger and had an extra layer of feathers and fat to help against the cold; they also had dark green streaks that ran down the crests, which helped them camouflage and also helped the penguins regulate their temperatures. The Lost Frostbite Clan is a clean, happy, energetic, communal clan. They always do everything together, from eating to walking and playing; there is very little they would do alone. Even though these penguins were bigger, they were not much braver than their ancestors and normally wanted to be around other penguins. They almost acted as their cousins, the Emperor penguins, huddling for warmth and comfort. Peck's Pecktacular Adventure! The Beginning: It was a sunnier day than usual in Glacier Falls when Peck woke up that chilly morning. He was ready to get out of bed and start his day! He got his breakfast, put on his tweed jacket, slipped on his rubber boots he then went for a walk. The town of Glacier Falls was bustling and chatty. A good feeling in the air made Peck feel warm and fuzzy inside. Peck wanted to share the warm and fuzzy feeling with his neighboring penguins, so he did what was natural, he gathered together some of his fellow penguins, they huddled and chatted for quite some time before departing though, Peck asked the other penguins if he could hug them. Huddles in Glacier Falls were normal, but hugs were not. The penguins looked slightly puzzled about the request but agreed to one hug each; with each hug, Peck's heart felt happier, as though, although there was not, these hugs were filling a hole in his heart. Peck went to lunch at the local Fresh Frozen Fishery and thought about how good those hugs made his heart feel. On his way home that evening, waddling in the cold sunset, a wonderful thought crossed Peck's mind. The following morning was slightly colder with some greyish clouds spattering the sky, Peck got out of bed, stretched his flippers and webbed feet, and proceeded to make and eat some fresh krill for breakfast, then he went to wash his face and brush his beak, he smiled big and bright at himself in the mirror and said in a cute penguins voice, "I'm going to do it!" he then put on his tweed jacket and rubber boots and headed out into the town of Glacier Falls. On his walk today, he stopped every town's penguin to say farewell. When they asked him what he meant, Peck replied "I'm going on a trip to hug all of the penguins from around the world." The penguins were surprised by this statement Later that evening, after Peck had waddled back home and told all of the town's penguins of Glacier Falls his idea, they all met up in Town Hall to discuss Peck's plans. Some penguins were concerned, others supportive and a few thought Peck was crazy, but all worried about his safety. They knew Peck would do as he said. They continued to meet for the next 3 nights, coming up with ways to help him and support him on his journey. Peck had spent the past 3 days saying farewell and packing his belongings so that he could begin his adventure. What Peck did not know was that the town's penguins were meeting these past few nights. Peck was locking up his humble abode and as he turned around he saw all of the town's penguins of Glacier Falls standing behind him. Every penguin was smiling at Peck. Peck looked at his fellow penguins and smiled back, the chief, Tobi, said, "Peck, for your long journey, we the penguins of Glacier Falls wish to present you with a gift that every penguin here helped to make so your travels will be easier and to help keep you safe." Peck had a puzzled look on his face, so Chief Tobi continued while looking at the crowd before them, "Penguins of Glacier Falls! Let us march to the shore!" The penguins began to march towards the shore, Peck followed with his 3 bags, 2 penguins turned around (Rosie and Roxie) and carried one bag each to help Peck. They chatted for the entire walk about what might happen along Peck's journey, about how many new penguins he would meet, and about the different kinds of other penguins he would encounter. After more than an hour of marching and talking, they all arrived at the shore. When they got there Peck looked around at every penguin and thanked them all for seeing him off and talking with him about his upcoming epic journey. Chief Tobi put his flipper on Peck's shoulder, smiled broadly at him then said "Hang on a moment there, Peck." Chief Tobi then motioned to the other penguins with an upward stroke of his flippers Peck heard a bubbling sound coming from the water. When Peck saw what came up he could not believe his eyes! "peck, when you told us all of Glacier Falls that you would be heading out on a quest to hug all of the penguins from all over the world, well, we all got together with our top builders, engineers and scientists, we knew we wanted to help ensure your safety, so all of us built this mini-transforming submarine to help you travel safely from place to place." |
