A poem of major depressive disorder and its effects on people.

Cumbersome 'Being''

Frigid-heat and sweltering-ice mind.
Wonder of this
pernicious, charcoal-coated
dream. Or crackled-paranoid-concrete reality —
who has the enigmatic, surgical key?
To rectify
torrid, tumultuous,
tentacle-thoughts.

Tangled, barbwire-twisted ‘Blue’ chemicals,
submerge with the flood—
Drowned with sludge/
stifle the
neurons’ screeching.

Pinpricks surround with thunderous, torturous,
piercing-pangs. The stricken soul!
Dastardly-dismal, demonically-dazed/
numbly detached. The crash—

It
is
upon
them
now.

At the bottom
fading,
into muddy-sounding
sucking sand.

Monstrous melancholy.
Lecherously lithe in its—
obscure method
to hold tight
its pulsing-gray prey!
Cumbersome-librium-creep
in no sleep/
fitful in deep.

Psyche-swims-backstroke/
crystal-white fear survives.
Atoms writhe and distort in the rubber-band stretch—
to converge!
To make whole of the/
threadbare-consciousness.

The mind repeats, cycles, and cries/
the Delphic —
‘Being’.
