Grannies are special! for Daily Flash Fictionf 7/20/24 |
“Mom,” Sheila said playfully. “You need a time out for real!” “What makes you think that? And remember, I changed your diapers.” “And you never let me do what you are encouraging my kids to do! Cake and Snickers are not breakfast foods. You would have never allowed that for me!” Tilting her head back, she laughed. “I had to be your mom, Sheila, but now is different. I’m Granny and that means I give the kids whatever they want. Besides, I didn’t let them have ice cream for breakfast….” “Ugh, Mom,” Sheila said exasperated. “You’re not listening! They need real food for breakfast, not sugar.” “They’re only young once, hon, “Sheila’s mom said softly. “And I’m only getting older. I want them to have fond memories of the time we spend together.” “Mom, they will have those memories, but that doesn’t mean they get what they want all the time. Sometimes, it’s a good idea to wait for something. It builds character.” “Ok, “she said in a defeated voice. “I will not allow cake and candy for breakfast anymore.” “That’s it?” Sheila asked in disbelief. “You’re being a little too specific. What is up your sleeve now, woman?” “Oh sweetie, don’t you worry your pretty little head about it! You’ll find out the next time I babysit the kids,” she laughed. 224 words |
