But it's important to her
Rival bakers, rival bakeries
Better bread, better cake, better cookies
Grandpa V/s. Grandma, both experienced
None of them rookies

"I can bake better than her!"
"He doesn't know a muffin"
Competition was rife
Which of them would win?

Then, to complicate things
His grandson and her granddaughter
Fell in love with each other
In romance, rivalries don't matter.

But the two older ones
(Like those in Romeo and Juliet)
Brandished rolling pins and said
"Out of here you'll get."

So the two ran away
The girl was especially low
She'd been taking lessons from grandma
On making varieties of dough

Her Romeo, he comforted her
"The tears make your eyes so red
Don't worry, the worst that can happen -
You're never going to make banana bread"

But she could not bear that
It was her favourite food
So she went back to the old lady
and promised to be good.

When the banana bread was ready
Her grandma said, "Now call that boy!"
"Grandma - what?"
The young lady jumped in joy.

"Let him taste and tell us
It's better than his grandpa makes!
Let him tell the truth
If he has what it takes."

The young man said the banana bread
Was the best he'd tasted in his life
And his grandpa laughed and said
"Well, great, since it's by your future wife!"
