Lost in a flood of turbulent waters
I'm drowning under these emotions
that belittle, sabotage, and slaughter.
Adrift in the middle of the ocean.
Tossed back and forth in the riptide of life.
My heart pounded on the rocky shore,
I'm sucked back under from a lifetime's strife,
dragged on the bottom of the sandy floor.
Reaching out, looking for something to grasp,
I untangle myself from the seaweed.
Breaching the water's surface, I gasp
and ride the waves back at high tide speed.
Arriving on land, I try to stand,
to balance my sea legs weak and quivery,
and take my first steps out of this marshland,
to stand firm when living gets too slippery.
