A week into starting my medical treatment
I’m on my fifth day of taking low dose T, as a nearly 43 year old person assigned female at birth, undergoing a non-binary transition.

My tendency to get caught up in emotion was immediately reduced. I haven’t cried since starting T. From what I understand, estrogen enhances memory of past experiences associated with strong emotions. These memories have pathways in the brain that estrogen facilitates following.

The risk of blood clots is higher for middle aged people over 40. The body is also generally less sensitive to hormones at this age, making the course of transition uncertain. Effects like body or facial hair that might happen in younger people may or may not happen at this age.

My throat has been somewhat sore this week, and I did start to notice my skin getting more oily. I don’t have acne yet.

I haven’t seen a gynecologist since 2019 although I know I have fibroids. I’m vaguely aware of some health risks. I will make a point of seeing a doctor soon.
