The Most Beautiful Gift of All

We have all lied.

But is that a problem?

The reasons vary,

From one person to the next.

And to me, it's more about who we lie to.

When that choice is made,

It leads us to a certain conclusion.

Time tends to find a way,

For the truth to have its day.

Trust is a gift...

That should be given without expectation.

Unlike a present to a friend,

Expecting similar in return.

But if we break that trust,

It can be extremely hurtful,

This is the kind of lie,

That requires more and more lies.

Until lies become the norm,

And for some,

Becomes their truth.

The worst kind of lie,

Is the one we tell ourselves.

No matter the reason,

Be it fear to say how we truly feel,

What we want,

What we need...

Or,

To protect the one we love.

The one who gave us this beautiful gift.

The first lie we tell ourselves,

And believe to be the truth.

Until the truth finds a way,

And lies unravel.

The pain we never meant to cause.

The very reason we lied.

Then run....forget....start again.

Never learning...never changing.
