A Collection of Stories on the Adventures of Cordinellas: Morals |
Every day, the old water carrier would trudge by the Guild House with his heavy pails. Cordinellas, a wise and kind-hearted leader, would always stop and greet him, interrupting his conversations with his disciples. Cordinellas had a soft spot for the water carrier, Berel, and would ask him how he was doing. But one day, Berel looked particularly downcast. His shoulders were slumped, and his face was etched with sorrow. When Cordinellas asked him how he was doing, Berel let out a deep sigh and poured out his heart. He spoke of his struggles with poverty, of his back-breaking work, of his tattered boots and the burden of providing for his large family. The weight of it all seemed too much for him to bear, and he walked away dragging his feet, without looking back. Cordinellas was moved by Berel's plight, and he knew he had to do something to help him. He thought long and hard about what he could say to lift Berel's spirits, and a few days later, when Berel passed by the Guild House again, he was ready. "Berel, my friend!" Cordinellas called out cheerfully. "How are you doing today?" Berel stood still, surprised by Cordinellas' warm greeting. But then something miraculous happened. Berel's face lit up, and he beamed at Cordinellas. "Very well, my good sir!" he exclaimed. "May Cayden Cailean share his blessings on you! I have work, and I am able to provide for my family. I am blessed because I have so many sweet children, and I am grateful that I can feed them and pay for their education. And those new homes they built on the hill need a lot of water, which means extra income for me. Thank you for asking, my friend. May Cayden Cailean bless you too!" Cordinellas smiled, his heart filled with joy. He blessed Berel with some encouraging words, and Berel lifted his heavy buckets and went on his way, his footsteps light and his face radiant. Cordinellas' disciples were perplexed. Why was Berel so much happier all of a sudden, even though nothing had changed in his life? Cordinellas knew what they were thinking, and he took the opportunity to teach them a valuable lesson. "Did you hear what Berel just said?" he asked them. "He thanked his God for his blessings, and he acknowledged that all he receives comes from Cayden Cailean. Even when things are difficult, there is always something to be thankful for. When you praise and thank your God, you feel better. Berel's pails are still heavy, and he is still poor, but his perspective has changed. He sees what is important and what is not, and he is grateful for everything he has. As a result, he is happy and content." Cordinellas' words resonated deeply with his disciples, and they walked away with a newfound appreciation for the power of gratitude. And as for Berel, he continued to carry his pails of water with a spring in his step, his heart filled with the knowledge that he was truly blessed. |
