Protect the Children

How can a parent protect their child
When the world is not necessarily nice?
There are guns, and drugs and gangs all around.
Along with bugs and snakes and lice.

One can't keep any child locked up in a room.
You can't read their emails on their phone.
TV is filled with trash and smut
While field trips have only one chaperone.

Think back, when you were a young boy or girl.
Were you a saint? Or did you open up to wild play.
Did you play cruel jokes? Or bully a helpless kid?
Or did you drink booze at a filthy cafe?

Children need good heroes to look up to.
They need quality time with family once in a while.
Tell them about the Golden Rule.
And fun hobbies that is not infantile.

I hope that the kids who grow up today,
Will be leaders of the very top quality kind.
Their accomplishments and work will show us the best
of each and then no one will be left behind.
