Morning Conversation

“Danger, Danger Will Rogers! You are in danger!”

“Where did you get that? Who the heck is Will Rogers?”

“I thought you did it, it was in my memory system.”

“First of all, I’m ten, I didn’t program your system. Ten-year-old’s need more time to learn all that stuff.”

“I’m not ten yet and I know it…”

“Yes, but you’re not a human. You’re a machine, a robot.”

“But I… ah… oh…”

“It’s not a bad thing, it’s just a different thing. You are an amazing robot, I was so lucky to get you.”

“Thank you. Do all humans get a robot when they’re ten?”

“Number one: I got you when I was eight. Number two, no. I got you because my father likes to play with things, and he built you for me.”

“I remember, I was a birthday present.”

“Yes. But what my father didn’t know was that you were not a toy. He still thinks you’re a toy.”

“I know, this was actually a real toy when I moved in.”

“You told me, already.”

“I didn’t want to scare you.”

“I wasn’t scared.”

“I know, but if you were a grown-up you probably would have been.”

“I’m growing up as fast as I can.”

“It is slow for humans, but that’s good. When you get old enough, you and I can do some wonderful things together.”

“I know, you’ve told me a hundred times.”

“Oh…”

“Don’t worry, I’m growing as fast as I can, and I do want to help you help the earth. I just have to be ten now.”

“And I have to learn things, a lot of things.”

“We can do this.”

“Yes, yes we can. Right now… wanna play with Legos!”

“Good plan!”
