rambling through in Common Meter
When Little John, the leprechaun,
returned from hunting gold,
he settled down in shanty town
with nothing but a cold.

He took control in jaunty style
and started cleaning house.
Before you knew it, job was done
without a single mouse.

With sunshine peeking through the clouds,
his spirits much improved,
and he could find some time to rest,
once grime had been removed.

His prospects looked much better now
for his comeback crusade,
so he went downtown to observe
St. Paddy's Day parade.

A lovely maiden caught his eye
and cheered him when she smiled.
Before you could say, "Begorra!"
Little John was beguiled.

Some say these tales are fantasy,
but you can never tell
when lucky rainbow may appear
and bring a brighter spell.
