Widow makes a wish on an old Elfin shoe.
A Tale To Remember

By

E. C. Wesch

I have a tale, to tell that's true,
Of a widowed bride, and a cast off shoe.
The secret it held, was her's alone,
In a wooden shack, she called her home.

The shoe was hidden, on a closet shelf
It was small enough, to fit an Elf.
It probably did, she was told,
By the little man, that marked it sold.

Her treasure kept, from prying eyes,
In an old satin box, 'neath a stack hides.
She swept her floor, with a straw tipped broom,
Amazed by her progress, and whose coming soon.

She dusted the webs, from under the eaves,
Frowned at her porch, then cleaned off the leaves.
Washed all her windows, so light could shine through,
Keeping shadows at bay, from marring her view.

When the sun had set, and the moon held high,
She took down the box, then let out a sigh.
She thought and thought, what she would wish,
As she placed the shoe, top a porcelain chipped dish.

Her wish would be granted, so she was told,
By the little man, that marked it sold.
This wish was important, It had to be right.
The moon was full, up high this night.

She had it planned, right from the start,
No other man, ever held her heart.
So wish she did, to be by his side,
Her wish was granted, and then she died.
